NCR Other memories of Guam...

1. The noise of about fifty guys hitting their salt shaker on the table each time they wanted some on their food, it went on all during the meal. It made an unbelievable racket!
2. The 25watt bulb in the closets for mildew and no metal hangers.
3. The two WWII Japanese soldiers that surrendered while I was there. Named Masashi Ito and Bunzo Minagawa, see Pacific Stars and Stripes Mon, Sep 28, 1964 pg10.
4. Losing my shot chart and going through all of them again. sad I still think tetanus was the worst, needles this time, no gun. sad
5. Shelling off Tarague Beach. And the stench of going back to the clothes line to get the shell. We'd catch the foot (except on shells we called "textiles" as they were very poisonous) and clip it to a clothes line until the shell dropped off. Do they still do it that way?
6. Going to the outdoor movies on base and getting rained on - hard.
7. Eating the dozen fried chicken breasts the guys in in-flight made for me when I left on my 30 hour trip back. I just didn't want the boxed rations anymore. grin
8. Going into the restaurant at Hickam AFB on the way back and getting a quart of fresh milk and a chef’s salad with lettuce that hadn’t been frozen.
9. Seeing the look on the airman's face who signed me out...same guy that had signed me in..."lifer." rofl
10. Seeing the Golden Gate as we flew towards Travis AFB… vbg

I'll stop now as Greg will probably throw this off the board anyway. Good luck over there. grin
