Travis, Dale, Kenny and I have been discussing this transaction for a day or two. We seem to agree that the "5" denomination ivory chip is a genuine chip that was scrimshawed c.1870-1890 and that the black print around the rim was added by another artist at a later date. The red dye on the rim is well worn while there is little or no wear to the black print. My only quandary is whether the print was added in 1906, 1926, 1956 or 1986? We have seen this style of print added to many other authentic chips. See the "fakes or possible fakes" section in Dale's latest book.

It is my opinion that this chip has little value (less than 30.00) since it has been defaced by the person adding the print. I can see no intrinsic value to the chip.
