Tonight’s selection comes from the country of Uruguay, properly the Oriental Republic of Uruguay because of its location on the east bank of the Uruguay River. It is situated on the Atlantic and is one of the most advanced of the South American countries. The note shown is a 1983 issue 5,000 Nuevo Pesos (N$). I selected it mainly because of the color on the back. The front depicts Brigadier General J.A. Lavalleja and the back features a scene of the 1830 pledge of allegiance when Uruguay was given its independence. Printer: Thomas De la Rue of London. This is not a current note of Uruguay.
