Posting Chip Images

Hi All.....I started collecting about a year ago, and I would like to srart trading/selling some doubles I have and some chips I picked up early when I was gobbling up everything I could find.

My question is this: I have seen some real high quality chip images here and on eBay. I have a pretty decent Nikon digital camera, but I dont think I could get the detail I am seeing here.

I hear mentions of "scans". Are these better images produced by scanning chips via a scanner?
Can anyone give me some good advice here? I do not have a scanner, but I do have a need for one.
I am a musician with REAMS of sheet music that I need to get on the computer. I have been procrastinating about that job for too long, and if a decent scanner could also produce quality chip images, I'll get off my butt and get one.

Also, advice on how to actually scan the chip would be nice.

Any guidance/advice is greatly appreciated.....Jerry Canzoneri R-6964
