This past weekend I appeared in my local paper, The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, CA. They run a weekly column called Show and Tell where you can show off and tell about your collection. Just 185 words and a picture, but it gave me a chance to introduce the hobby to the local public and maybe get some leads on other collectors, or maybe a few chips someone found in the drawer at grandpa's house. Within a few hours of the paper being in the rack, I received an e mail from a gentleman who had read the article, gone to the Club website and joined the CC & GTCC.
I've also become a celebrity of sorts at work at the Spa Resort Casino. I was approached today by a coworker who told me he collects casino matchcovers. He has about 1000 in his collection. He told me he belongs to a club called Casino Matchcover Collector's Club. They have an annual meeting the week before Memorial Day in Fresno, CA. They also put out a newslatter approx. six times a year. I hadn't heard anyone on this board ever mention this group and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting information from them. My coworker said he would be happy to pass along the name and address to the club of anyone I found that is interested, so if you are, send me your name and address and I'll get it to him ASAP.
