An interesting question from CCGTCC BBS....

Over on the CCGTCC Message Board an individual has posed a question that I thought I would extend to this BBS.

Reprinted here is the full content of the question and posted scan. The poster did not leave an email address and I am not familiar with the name (Sperls), but the question is relavent to our interests.

As discussed previously on this BBS, the error noted is a mis-registration error. A very common printing error. It ocurrs when there is a mis-alignment of one (or more) of the several print passes of the different ink colors.

It would appear to this layman, that the inlay was printed with 5 different colors and two appear to be off (mis-aligned). The black appears OK (outline of the Sultan and most lettering). Gold/yellow appears OK (turban, wristbands, and sword hilt). Flesh colors appears OK. Turquoise and blue/purple are off, turquoise is less so. The bottom of the "D" encroaches onto the Sultan's shoulder and his belt has a white (the inlay color) showing through at the top.

The blue/purple is way off (pants, and 3 turban elements (jewels?)).

Unless TCR value has changed in TCR 10, TCR 9 shows this to be a "Q" valued chip ($200 - $249). Based on condition (as described and as seen in the scan) this chip would appear to be at the high end.

However, the error condition (in my opinion) lessens the value of this chip as opposed to increasing the value (as some errors do).

To me, mis-registration errors are very common errors and only detract from the chip and therefore, in my opinion, decreases the value of a chip. It may not be much of a decrease, but I would rather spend the $249 on a non- mis-registered Dunes chip!

Opinions please?
