Scarcity of French Style Chips

At one of the first conventions I attended, maybe 8-10 years ago, someone had a big "junk box" full of plastic chips from many different countries. These seem to have taken on the name "jeton" since then. At the time, no one seemed interested even though they were just a dollar or two each.

There seems to be more interest today, but I'm wondering if they are really common. I would think that with the Euro currency change, many would be surplused but don't know if they were destroyed or not. Any thoughts on the value of these plastic B&G type chips in general? I know the few used in the US (roulettes for MGM and Paris) are pretty scarce and expensive.
