Donations to Nevada Historical Society

In this week's Numismatic News, appears an article about Fitzgerald's hoard items being donated to the Nevada Historical Society by Ron Gillio.

"Among the items were a hand cranked silver dollar counting machine, a vintage roulette wheel, casino chips and dice, chip holder, postcards, souvenir spoons and key chains, century-old silver dollars and other historic pieces. The total value of the donated items is estimated at $20,000."

Gaming memorabilia came from the Nevada Club of Reno, the Nevada Lodge of Lake Tahoe and Fitzgerald's Reno, all founded by the late Detroit gambler Lincoln Fitzgerald. It was privately acquired from Fitzgerald's heirs in late 2003 by Gillio, a collector and dealer in rare coins and antiques from Santa Barbara, California.

Gillio donated a representative sample of gaming pieces from the Nevada Club found as pat of the "Fitzgerald Hoard" in a 6k,000-square-foot warehouse in the outskirts of Reno.

The original blueprints and architectural drawings for Fizgerald's Nevada Club were also included."
