An interesting variety

Wilson Gee sent me a new $1 chip from the Argosy in Riverside Missouri a while back. The casino has expanded and needed more $1 chips, so when this order came in, he sent me a nice sharp new one. At first glance, the chips looked identical. I pulled out the black light to check the UV characteristics and they were identical also. I was just about to consider them the same, when I thought it looked like maybe the red ink in the denomination of the new chip was a little darker than it was in the older version. I grabbed my magnifying glass to take a look and sure enough, the red on the new one was peppered with little black dots and the older one wasn't.

That wasn't the big surpise though. Through the magnifying glass I could see that the ships wheel of the older chip was printed with brown ink. The ships wheel of the newer chip was printed with a variety of colors that appear brown with the naked eye.

The first photo below is the new chip, the second one is an enlargement of a portion of the new chip and the third photo is an enlargement of the older chip.
