All of the recently appearing slab chips appear to be self slabbed.

I ahve a friend who self slabs cards and has created what is essentially phony slabbing business. While he maintains a website where he offers slabbing service, he discourages business since he doesn't actually want to bother slabbing other people's stuff. The whole reason for the slabbing company is to give legitimacy to the items he sells on Ebay. Actually he has been out of this business for a little bit of time but he told me he may be returning to it.

I suspect that this self slabbing is probably very common in coins and cards. Experienced Buyers probably aren't going to be fooled because they learn that these don't hold value the way that slabs from the big companies do. However novices are probably fooled quite frequently.
