Re: Answer to Victor About Phony Ashtray

If this is the way you and your buddy’s conduct your business than I’m not sure I’d be so fast to assert professionalism in this field.

I feel that all of you conducted yourselves in a VERY unprofessional way and even perhaps more like bullies than even self-proclaimed professional collectors.

It’s a crying shame that my boyfriend is such an easy going man because if you were dealing with me, it would be a different matter.

Call your dogs off now!

Dear olmotreasures,

Probably no fault of yours but this is a bogus casino ashtray. You really need to kill the listing or revamp it as a "fantasy" piece. I am sure you will be hearing from other collectors questioning it's authenticity. Mark Englebretson Torrington, Wyoming XXX-XXX-XXXX If you want to call I will be here all day tomorrow.

Dear olmotreasures,

Good day ! As an avid Nevada casino ashtray & memorabilia collector, your auction has not gone unnoticed by many serious collectors. I am fairly certain, based on my 10 years of experience & knowledge, that this ashtray is not genuine and is not what you represent it to be. You are either knowingly deceiving and taking advantage of uneducated bidders and/or are unknowingly perpetrating deceit. I do not believe in the adage "Buyer Beware" when it comes to my hobby of passion, and something that I have a lot of money & time invested in. Actions as such that you are participating in, be it knowingly or not, hurts the collectors involved in such hobbies. Be assured there are other's watching also, who are just as concerned as I am. We have each worked with eBay officials in the past successfully about such activity and can do so again. The ball is in your court. With all do respect, I ask you to please consider immediately ending this auction.

I don't know anything about Ashtrays { have a couple of common Trays } so how can you tell this particular Tray is a phony ? I've seen some of your Ashtrays posted...they're great looking Trays...what does a collector look for to tell an Ashtray is genuine ? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Victor

Mark,
How can you tell this is a fake? Is it the style of glass??
I'd heard about a little place on the strip a few years back that was selling "kncok-off" ashtrays.

As with most phonies they are easy to spot.
This particular tray is like a few others that have shown up in the last year or so.
The maker has done a scan of a legitimate tray or found a logo and printed it on photo paper, then cut it out and pasted it in the bowl of the tray. Then they have painted over it with an acrylic sealer.
Real trays had the logos fired on with heat stable ink at very high temperatures.
What few there are have come from Missouri and New York.
Mark

BTW look up english hobnail the glass style/ pattern was made between 1974 to 1982 and this particular ashtray HAD NO acrylic paint on it! Once again as my boy friend stated the advertising is INSIDE the glass, NOT glued, painted or any other type of adhering to the glass of any nature. so when you are ask to explain yourself in a professional way please use specifics and facts and not in assumptions or in genrals. this isn't a profession way of conduct.

Have a wonderful night.
Leah

PS for all of you who want to see the auction please search under completed auctions now and don't forget to read the questions to seller.

Thanks for the space to vent.
