Harrah's CIO doesn't get it!

Shocking, that the CIO (Chief Information Officer?) wouldn't understand the difference in employee tracking, vs. player tracking!

For players, the chips are only tracked on the table, and that data is linked-up to their rating. There would be no reason to have sensors all over the casino floor, to "follow" a chip - players get logged in when they switch tables, and the data stream continues.

Other ways a casino may choose to track chips in-play; by combining that data with cards actually dealt (shoes that read cards dealt are just being introduced to the market, both by Bally Mindplay, and soon by RFID vendors) - this would indicate rather quickly the skill of a particular player (something virtually impossible to monitor Casino-wide without this technology). SO, if a card counter is perfect, the system will quickly ID them for appropriate action. Conversely, if a player is particularly bad, they will be ID'd for more conspicuous comps.

HOW Harrah's is tracking cocktail waitresses isn't detailed in the article linked above. RFID chips can only be read a few inches from the chip - so maybe Harrah's has outfitted each slot & station at a table with a cocktail waitress call button, and when the waitress brings the drink, they wave their name tag by the call button and the reader registers that a particular waitress brought the drink at a specific time? It almost sounds like Harrah's is using a GPS system, with software to monitor where a particular waitress is, and where they have been. Software would be able to track miles walked, # of trips to the service bar, every path taken during a shift, areas of a section not being served etc...

Dealers, however, will now be constantly tracked (via chip & card tracking software); shuffle times, mistakes, and hands-per-hour will be precisely monitored...
