Extra! Atlantic City Express Closure on Tuesday 4/12

PER A PRESS RELEASE BY THE SOUTH JERSEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY

Travelers planning to use the Atlantic City Expressway’s eastern terminus the night of Tuesday, April 12, through early Wednesday morning are advised to make alternative plans. The roadway will be closed at Exit 5 from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. while a crane installs a 243-foot long pedestrian bridge at the Pleasantville toll plaza.

Eastbound motorists will be diverted from Exit 5, along Route 9 in Pleasantville to Route 40/Route 322 and will gain access to midtown Atlantic City along Arctic Avenue. Outbound traffic can take Fairmount Avenue and then follow the same detour route, which will be fully staffed by state troopers and local police officers. The eastbound Express E-ZPass lanes will be shut down at 6 p.m. Tuesday to make room for the crane.

The rest of the Expressway will be fully operational. Emergency Service Patrols will cover the detour routes in addition to the 47-mile toll road.

The Authority recommends that westbound motorists -- especially those trying to reach the Garden State Parkway northbound -- plan to use Route 30, the White Horse Pike, as the preferred alternative. It is easily reachable from midtown by using the Atlantic City connector; once in Absecon, the Route 30 detour route uses the newly improved intersection with Route 9, which goes directly to Expressway Exit 5. Motorists already in the Marina District will be directed to Route 30 by signs and police officers.

Below are traffic directions from the 13 casinos:

Hilton, Tropicana, Trump Plaza, Caesars-Atlantic City, Bally’s Park Place, Claridge Casino at Bally’s and Sands: From the parking garage, drive west to Atlantic Avenue, turn left (south) and take first right at the circle onto Albany Avenue (Routes 40/322). Valet patrons should drive east to Pacific Avenue and turn left (south) to Albany Avenue and turn right.

Resorts, Trump Taj Mahal and Showboat: From the parking garage drive west to Atlantic Avenue, turn left (south) to Martin Luther King Boulevard, turn right onto the Boulevard to Absecon Boulevard (Route 30). Valet patrons use Pacific Avenue to reach MLK Boulevard.

The Borgata and Harrah’s Atlantic City: From the parking garage turn right onto Brigantine Boulevard and follow the signs to Route 30.

Trump Marina: Turn left onto Brigantine Boulevard and follow the signs to Route 30.
