Re: Hey, I'm gonna go to my Garage...

Bit of advise. I collected lures, long before I got interested in chips.

Prices when up and up in the 70s, then peaked, and started falling. When eBay came online and some of the better price guides were updated, interest grew and the market went up again.

For every rummage sale that I went to that had an old bait, 90% were priced about 20 times the correct value, because "I read somewhere that these were valuable and collectible."

Most old wooden lures are like most old casino chips. Common and of a fair but moderate value.

With both, the ones that demand the high prices are scarce, but documented. The chances of finding a high value casino chip at a rummage sale, estate sale, garage sale, flea market, whatever, are better than finding a rare lure at one of the same.

Most of the valuable lures are a model that was made, didn't sell well and were dropped from the product line. Some are prototype or special colors. But if it's something that you could find in the fishing shops in the 50s or later, it's about 98% chance it's common and worth well under $10.

Here's one more tip. The boxes in many cases are worth more than the lures! grin People bought the lure, tossed the cardboard and put the bait in their tackle box.

If you have some of your Grandfathers WOODEN lures in the garage, you might be in luck.
