Short Tunica trip report

Cindy and I just got back from a few free nites in Tunica complements of Horseshoe and Fitzgeralds. There are no new chips to be found yet from the Caesars/Harrahs buyout. In fact the sale hasn't been finalized yet. Ballys people tell me that Colony Capital will take over on April first but has the option to keep the Ballys name for 2 years. Harrahs people have no idea what is going on but the gift shop is have a big Harrahs logo sale. This brings up an interesting point. The story I have heard is that the Grand was going to get the Harrahs name. This trip I heard from two different sources that the Grand will actually become a Caesars. This makes more sense to me since it is a very upscale property. It also makes sense to get rid of all of the Harrahs logo items if there isn't going to be a Harrahs in town. I sure hope that one of the casinos gets new chips soon since I will pass thru Tunica on my way to Biloxi in early May. I picked up one extra of each Harrahs clock shown in the scan if anyone wants them for $6 each including shipping. They are new in the boxes.

The only other Tunica info I was able to get is that both new casinos scheduled for the city of Tunica are still dead in the water. The Solid Gold casino just got approval to proceed with a lawsuit that was started in 2002. The boat is still in place and a new dining room was added before work stopped. The old Splash site is still the same and I hear that the workers who did some site work about a year ago still have not been paid. It sounds to me like neither place will ever get off the ground.
