"Wow!" I thought when I saw these chips tonight, that's them there Comet chips! Tuned in this evening to The American Life Network to watch "77 Sunset Strip". The episode was entitled "The Bouncing Chip" (1958)and Spence was asked by the owner of the Meteor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to find who was passing bogus Meteor chips. Well, you know he did.

These chips showed up on eBay about a year ago, the seller being in the prop/stunt biz in Hollywood. Seller had these up along with a bunch of Crystal Bay chips, go figure. Didn't have a clue about these or any familiarity with chips. Debbie Meister and I were really curious about them when Doug Deems got the skinny from TR King... Warner Bros. 1958 with no other information. Advised the seller and passed along some chip knowledge re: the paint job and such. Told her if she could connect them with a movie or celeb that the value would be a little higher. Um, I don't think 77 Sunset Strip is gonna put these babies in orbit. grin

The show repeats at 10 pm Pacific and the chips are clearly identifiable in the first 7-8 minutes or so. Acme Plastics is the fictional maker of the legit chips. The villian is "Frenchie" LaTour outta Miami and his girlfriend is Ruta Lee. Look for a young Diane Cannon also.

"77" also did a show about Reno that was a real hoot, bogus silver dollars in that one!
