Stockmen's History and Dice

I have some Stockmen's dice around here someplace. In the late 90's they sold them from the gift shop in the basement. (same place they still sell the ashtrays you will find on eBay as "rare") grin

I bought as many different kinds as I could one trip. Then I went back the next year and they didn't have them anymore. Probably a slow moving item and I was the only one buying them?

All Drilled for keychains. Sold this group on eBay a short time back.

Here's some downtown history for you. Humboldt Lodging House evolved into the Commercial Hotel. The Depot hotel closed in 1904 and the manager Charles Mayer built his own hotel on the site of the Gem Hotel. Years leter the hotel was remodeled and renamed the Stockmen's.

The Stockmen's Hotel opened in 1944 after Wm Mayer (Son of Charles) sold the old Mayer Hotel to Red Ellis and A.C. Bigham.

Red Ellis sold the hotel to Dan Bilbao Sr, JB Dollard adn VJ McGee in 1952. In 1955 Ellis bought the Commercial and Ranchinn.

March 1957 the Stockmen's was destroyed by fire. Total loss. The building was rebuilt and there was a grand re-opening in October 1958. A million dollar expansion was completed in 1968.

How's that for "too much information"? vbg
