"and then ignored an email inquiry to explain his actions by a respected member (not me) of this board"

This is the email I received.
=====================================

Dear David,

With all due respect, there is something that I do not understand about your decision to bid on the Borland fantasy chips on auction that are clearly misrepresented by the lister. Yesterday, you wrote:

" received abusive replies. Someone posted that they are a walk-in store that will sell anything for a commission or something like that. Probably no squat about anything they are selling. At least they had the decency to start the bidding low. "

I have also seen posts on the board in which you vehemently claim to express a desire to protect the unknowledgable and unwary from getting ripped off by unscroupulous sellers.

I have also read your threads in which you attack people like Captain Banjo for their beliefs. So it behoves me, how on earth can you proceed to bid on this auction? I get the impression, from your decision to bid, that the bottom line is your main motivation in this hobby, and that you will defame someone else in order to get something for yourself for less if possible. If this is true, fine, but be please honest with yourself and others.

This is not, in any way meant to be a personal attack on you David. It just simply does not make sense to me how you can fight for a cause and then support those who you are in disagreement with.

Best regards,
Ron Piltzer

Here is my reply:

Ron

There is a distinct difference between a regular chip seller and a non-chip seller providing misleading descriptions. As I noted later, I was informed after I had first posted, that the seller was a walk-in store who uses the descriptions provided to them. Had it been their intention to deceive, then surely the starting price would have been much higher. accept the fact that they dont know what they are selling.

Can you honestly tell me that you would not buy from a seller who misdescribed his goods if the price was a fraction of the value?
That said, those comments are directed upon a non club member, non chip dealer.

However, when we look at the seller of the goods in the auction that Capt Banjo got so worked up about, that seller IS a club member, and has ethics to abide by. Sorry that I cant accept that seller knew nothing about the chips he was selling: having first lied 3 times about how he came by the chips. It was NOT a hypothetical suggestion by Gene.

Two widely different scenario's I feel.

Regards

David

Ron's reply

Hi David,
Thank you for the explanation. It is well received and I can understand your point of view.

I agree that a secondary seller has no control as to the content of a description provided by the seller. This appears to be a problem as a seller can easily misrepresent merchandise with no need to be responsible for their descriptions.

I appreciate you response and now see your decision in a completely different light.

Sincerely,
Ron
