I totally agree with the article that the Tribal Casinos will NEVER hold a Candlestick to Las Vegas as far as being the Entertainment Capital of the World. All the glitz is definately in Vegas and nobody anywhere will EVER give it serious competition as far as being a vacation Destination.

However, the article stated that the Tribal casinos were doing little to impact the local community. That's very untrue in many cases. San Manuel in Highland is a good example. They are located in a relativly improverished area, but have used their profits to reach out to the Community and create HUNDREDS of jobs and businesses for both Indians and Non-Indians. They have indeed made an impact as well as several others in Southern calif.

After our Government backed out on over 400+ Treaties with the Indians, Most of the Indians live on the reservations and have little education and live in near poverty, but the new Gaming laws in California have provided an excellent source to begin to rebuld hope and prosperity.

An excellent book on the birth of California Indian Gaming and the vision of a certain Indian Chief is Titled "The return of the Buffalo".

Glitz and Glamour aside, California Gaming is doing quite well financially :)
