Alzheimer's .......

My Alzheimer’s mother in law has progressed to a a new low. She only has memory of how things were thirty years ago. She insists on going to her mother’s (non-existant) house that was located 500 miles away and thinks it is ‘just around the corner’. I have explained he mother and father died 30 years ago and she relives the grief of their passing. After explaining to her over and over I gave in last night and to get her to go to bed I told her she needed sleep for the long drive to her mother’s house in the morning. It worked. Today was same thing over and over wanting to go ‘home’. I gave in and told her we had been to her mother’s house last week….. Guess what she tells me? “You know my mother died 30 years ago.” I shook my head, I can’t win!!! Thought you would like a funny story.

I cannot imagine what it must be like to be totally confused all the time and an explaination is lost after 3 minutes and it starts all over.

It was kinda funny at first with the antics she would pull, now it is pathetic and sad to see her plummetting mentally.
