Leroy Hoffman: Remembered

Leroy Hoffman 84,a U.S. Army veteran and former Newport policeman died Wednesday, at St.Luke Hospital.
Mr. Hoffman was part of the reform committee of 500, who worked to rid the city of Newport of gambling and prostitution.
Mr. Hoffman joined the police force in 1942 and retired as a captain in 1970.
Just think of all the stories he had to tell!!
I met Mr Hoffman at a lecture at Northern Kentucky University, and then later at his house, got to see some of the items he had collected over the years, and hear more stories.
I did buy a box of $5.00 633 chips from him, that were in like new condition.
The man considered by many as a pillar of knowledge of the city of Newport, will be missed.
RIP
