I have the Christchurch $2.50 and it looks like a silk-screened marking to me. Probably the same for the 1/4 cent chip you show, Dave (very low roller game [g]).

Very few chips were made with this kind of marking. Wonder how they hold up on the tables on the other side of the world? Anyone have a well-used one to scan?
