Re: Collector Books vs True Value

I look at "book" (any book, anything collectible) as what a motivated buyer will pay a dealer for that item, if they really want it for their collection.

Since I feel I am partly responsible for your response, since I pretty much wrote that the specific items I looked at, not all of CF, were priced at book value, I should explain.

I don't want to point the finger at any seller.

I'd suggest that if you want to do a survey, look at offered prices on chips from Elko, and look at the book, and look at what the same chips are selling for on eBay... the real world. Look at the number of these chips that have been up for auction, over and over in the past two years.

Unfortunatly eBay has cut their search back to 30 days, 60 if you can find a specific auction. Maybe you can ask Jay Sands for assistance if he's still keeping his records? Say for example obsolete chips from Crumly Hotels, Elko Nevada?

I don't know what all chips on CF are selling for, I don't care. I only look at chips that I am interested in buying. The same goes for chips that I have up for sale. If someone doesn't collect Wisconsin, it doesn't matter if I'm selling for below face, current chips, they are not interested. grin

My original comment was that if the sellers want to make sales, they need to set prices that will entise others to buy.

If I pay a 25c fee at one place and sell nothing, or pay a 50c fee at another and sell almost everything, which one is bringing in the best return?

Show me the statistics on profit from 100% of Nothing for a lower listing fee vs 50% of something with the higher listing fee?

After that, which is going to look like an attack, I wish you, your sellers and Collecting Fun the best. If chips I collect come up at reasonable prices, I'll buy them. In fact if something I really need shows up, at an unreasonable price, I'll probably still buy it. vbg

Maybe what I'm missing is a Wanted To Buy section. eBay has tried it, but it looks like if you put up Casino Chip, you'll get spammed to death from poker chip sellers. I'm not going there!

Does CF have a Want List section. Sellers could find buyers. I wish 50 dealers (are there that many?) would look at my want list. I have some chips I really "need" for my collection.

There are a number of old Wisconsin chips that I would like for my collection, and two specific modern Elko chips (Serial Numbered Red Lion Cowboy Poetry) in this case it's to the sellers advantage to find people, instead of the other way around.
