PBS will be carrying a story this evening on the "J. Shippen Putter". ("History Detectives") While I may not get a mention, I found this putter in an Antique/Auction shop in Torrington, CT. many years ago. I, in turn, sold it to Bob Kuntz at a Dayton, Ohio meeting. (Bob was co-founder of the Golf Collectors' Society.) A very good friend, Pete Georgiady, is interviewed at Golf House in Far Hills, NJ. Bob Kuntz has donated the club to a golf foundation. Shippen was an African-American Pro whose entry almost cancelled the US Open in 1896.
