I have posted this before: The 49 camp chips were made for the 1915 Panama Pacific expo in San Francsico celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal. The 49 Camp was a reproduction of a '49ers gold hunting camp, complete with a gambling hall. I understand that this floating camp later went to anoter exposition in San Diego. I do not know why Larry Eastman attributes it to Oakland, Ca, where cardrooms have never been legal.
