Here is a similar quirk for you to examine Rich. Several folks have told me that they have reversed inserts on some of the chips with double (side by side) edge inserts (SXS).

That is; when they hold the chip "right side up" (heads) the insert colors are let's say white/black, white/black, white/black. On other examples with the same heads-side facing up, the alignment is black/white, black/white, black/white. Of course this only occurs on chips which have different center inlay artwork on each side because if the same identical center inlay design was on both sides ... how could one tell if the edge inserts were reversed or not? Examples would be the Harrah's Bud Light $10 chips and the $10 Miss America chips and $10 Bally's Wild West to name just a few. I don't distinguish the differences in my A.C. catalog, but some collectors do and they want both variations.
