The low is the five lowest cards in a hand with the highest card in any one hand competing against the oppositions high card. Only in a home game will you see someone claiming that if a person's low is a straight it is disqualified. You will never see it played that way in a casino and we don't follow it in our home game because we want to mimic how it is played in poker rooms around the country.
