Think twice before buying one of those homeowner policies. We got a free one with our 6 year old house and I think I am the only person who has ever made money on the deal. They don't really cover anything. If you have a water leak (we did - 5 times) and the ceiling falls in they cover the water leak but not the ceiling damage. When they do cover plaster damage it is only the rough finish. One time they sent an electrician to do the plaster work. What a poor job he did. They only cover things inside the house nothing outside the walls. They also charge you $45 for every visit whether the item is covered or not. Most of the time it is not covered. Last time they tried to tell us that our leak was faulty installation - on a house that is 6 years old. I had to argue with 3 supervisors to get a second opinion. The second guy they sent tightened up the shower drain and said it was nornal wear and tear which was covered. While if you have something that does fail it can be good to have the policy but the frustration of dealing with them just isn't worth it. They work on the policy of you pay for the service call and they work on denying coverage for any problem. The contractors have to keep saying that the problem is not covered or they don't get called on more jobs. If you do get something repaired that is not covered the contractors stick it to you price wise. Can you feel my frustration?
