I'm of the same mind Carl. I wonder if the main reason CA. chips aren't collected as avidly as Nevada is a lack of any comprehensive history of gaming in California. I'm ignorant of what is/was legal over the years in CA. for instance. One of the attractions of Nevada chips is the association with mobsters, celebrities and celebrity mobsters (!) in a wide-open state. I know that the highly regarded CA. gambling ship chips have an tinge of jolly roger illegality to them which probably helps their value but what else has gone over the years in the rest of the state? In Kling/King's oral history, Every Light Was On, Milos Begovich talks tantalizingly about small town CA. gaming before he moved to NV. to work for Harrah and open Sharkey's. What was up in Gardena all those years and what's the deal on those Bay Area private clubs too? Would be nice if'n a California collector would put together some articles for the CCTN.

Wide range of chips out of CA. also. Some of the great TR King chips are CA. for example. Great hotstamps and inlays. Well, okay, those Floyd's inlay are pretty ugly! grin The fun of considering what a dump the Top Of The Vine brass cores came out of. I really like my Chauffer's Union 240 from Las Angeles for that old-timey chip craft.

Guess that just leaves a bunch of great chips for us collectors that pick the wrong state Carl! Here's some California poker room action in this scan:
