If you used Acrobat 5.0 to create the file and he tries to open it in 6.0 it should open just fine. I'd suspect that somehow the PDF got corrupted on the way. Acrobat is backward compatible - in fact I open things written with Acrobat 4.0 and 5.0 using the newest version of the reader (6.0.2) all the time.
