Not necessarily. The bank will normally take 'a view' of risk vs reward and would in this case assess that risk had increased. They would therefore both lend more money and increase interest rates. Regardless of whether the debt continues to increase they would probably maintain this stance while assets outweigh the debt. Even if they end up 'writing off' debt they will have made more money out of it.
