You might want to check out the 1/4" aluminum channel at Home Depot that is used for sliding windows for the receptionist window at a doctors office. Use wider mirror clips to hold the channels at top and bottom instead of individual slot glass. An 8' length of channel (one at the top and one on the bottom) will hold about 7 standard slot glass panels.

What's nice about the channel, is that you can slide new slot glass into the channel ... or easily rearrange similar size slot glass by sliding them in or out and putting in a different glass. It's as easy as sliding a horizontal window pane.
