Re: NCR -- LINGO Internet Phone Service

It's $49.95 a month for "office" lines, which is what I'm paying for three phone lines now.

DSL runs $29.95 a month on average with a one year rate, which will balloon the next year. TPC (the phone compnay grin) has told me that if at the end of a year I want I can sign up for another year and get the "special" rate again.

LD rates are such that you would need to make hours and hours of calls during the day, considering that nights, after 9 pm and weekends are free on the cell phone, which runs about $20 a month for basic service.

In the end, someone would have to make one heck of allot of calls from "HOME" to make use of this service, and it costs more than having a standard land line. However if you can carry the equipment and computer with you to some location that has DSL or cablemodem, you could make use of it.

It seems that a cell phone makes much more sense and costs much less, is more portable and doesn't rely on special connections.

By the way T-mobile has a $19.95, in addition to your standard T-mobile cell service, Unlimited Internet service (at 56k however) that you can run from a cable to your cell phone or buy a card for $249 that plugs into your laptop and goes anywhere your laptop goes that you have GSM cell service.

You can get Unlimited Internet through the aircard for $29.95 and have no cell phone service. 10c a minute of you sould decide to talk through your computer, which seems a waste?

Cool toy Pete, but the VOIP doesn't make sense for cost vs functional usage for the average person.
