Burt and the Seal and Crest Chips

Here's an old flyer I got at the convention this year. Think it is from HowdyH.

I re-reading this item and thinking of the other old chip makers ads in Dale's poker chip book, I'm still not convinced that the "seal" in the name for the chips refers to the sealing of the customers artwork into the chip with a clear covering. What I think the advertisements are about is to announce that no longer will customers be limited to standard designs, or to simple monograms and initials stamped onto standard chips. Now they can have their "family crest", or their "royal seal" put on a piece of paper and made a part of the chip they order.

Burt called them "Seal and Crest" in their ad... USPC called them "Crest and Seal" in their promotions. I agree it's handy for us collectors to have a name for this class of plain mold chips inlaid with lithographed pictures, and I guess RobertE's "crest and seal" is as good as any, but I don't think the "seal" refers to sealing the surface (thin layer of transparent material)... just one of the kinds of designs that they could put on the chips for their customer.

Sure are pretty anyway!

Why wouldn't the 100 be a reverse die cut?
