Here's my take on collection size, Wayne:

If you know exactly how many chips you have, you don't have a big collection [g].

The bigger collections around might be measured in $value, weight, or number of volumes, but the collector seldom knows how many he has.

Jerry Wall's 'big' collection was at least 500 pounds. It covered several display tables 2-3 binders deep. That didn't include his seller inventory.

When I first started collecting, I carried my collection with me to shows. Then I started carrying photocopies of my collection to shows. Now, the scans occupy 285 MB on my laptop as the copies more that filled a 3-ring binder. There are probably several dozen collectors with collections bigger than mine.

Finally, as you have already alluded to, the quality of your chips has to enter into any measure of 'how big' it is. You can fill several binders with antique poker chips, or common roulettes without spending a lot of money or taking a lot of time at it. To complete a specialized collection category may take much longer, many more dollars, and be looked on by many in the hobby as a bigger collection. For example, Bob Feeney's specialized 2.50 chip collection is most likely the largest in existence; he displayed it at the convention twice as it grew. I believe the chips covered about 6 display tables last year.Chuck Mades may have a count on how many Bob had.
