Re: Where is Verdi, NV?
In Response To: Where is Verdi, NV? ()

The Boomtown in Verdi is still open. It is basically your last chance to gamble before crossing the line back to California. I had my greatest craps roll ever there several years ago. We stopped off to grab a bite to eat and maybe have one last shot at the dice tables before going home. The dice table there was shorter than a normal craps table.. but we figured what the heck, we'll give it a go. I did what my family calls a "20 Buck Chuck" .. buying in for just 20 dollars.. figuring either I will make it happen.. or at least keep my losses to a minimum. They handed me the dice and the pit boss said "I'd like to see you hold these for half an hour" I laughed and said "I always like to hold them at least an hour" I could not miss.. kept hitting the hard ways.. bumping my bets.. everyone else was betting the hard ways.. hollering.. you could not even see the hard ways on the table.. they were covered with chips.. I had all the numbers placed.. every time I threw the dice they handed me money!.. It was 5 deep around the table.. They had to restock the chips 3 times.. they kept checking the dice. Talk about fun! I only made about $480.. since I was a conservative better at the time.. other people made several thousand on my roll. I ended up holding those dice for an hour and fifteen minutes! I was hoarse for 2-3 days from hollering at those dice. Would love to have a roll like that again some day. The Gold Ranch is actually closer to the CA border. It is where you stop for gas on the way home. I think it is slots only now.. but years ago they had a single blackjack table. They had two little old ladies dealing out of a 6 or 8 deck shoe.. one of the slowest pace blackjack games I ever played.. and invariably, one of the gals would decide it was time to go on a break and the other wouldn't deal unless both of them were there LOL.. The chips were so worn and ugly that I never did pick one up for my collection. I bet I know where you got that Verdi chip from Andre.
