Re: Cine Vegas and the Film "Stuey"

Below is from Norm's column in the RJ. Andy - Las Vegas

New Line Cinema deals 'Stuey' in!

The film "Stuey" is getting a new life. A year after its debut at the CineVegas Film Festival sparked little interest, the independent film about the demise of gambling legend Stuey Ungar has been picked up by a major distributor.

Producer-director Tony Vidmer, who shot the film in 22 days, said New Line Cinema purchased the flick with hopes of riding the wave of poker's revived popularity.

Michael Imperioli of "The Sopranos" plays Ungar, the three-time World Series of Poker champion who battled drug problems before his 1998 death in a motel on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Vidmer said the film could be released overseas before U.S. audiences see it. The title will be changed to "High Roller."

"There seems to be a poker frenzy that's starting to go international," explained Vidmer, who also wrote the script.

Steve Schirripa, the former Riviera entertainment director who landed on "The Sopranos," was among many locals with roles in "Stuey."
