Picture Posting Instructions
In Response To: Help with Posting Picture ()

Hey Don, I know quite a few people are confused about doing pictures. There's few parts to getting a picture to show here. I'm giving full and complete instructions for you and any others that might want a few tips. I guess we can consider this a public service announcement.

1. Upload the picture
2. Cut the uploaded picture address(URL)
3. Paste the uploaded picture address (URL)

Here's how you do the three things and a few variences.

1. To upload a scan, click on the "file upload" button on the orange tool bar towards the top of the chipboard.

Then, you must fill in the two windows with your name, and your email address. Next, you select the picture you want to upload, by hitting the "BROWSE" button. Go to the place you have the picture, and then double click on the picture.

Then hit "SUBMIT"

2.You have now uploaded your scan. You will get a message that says "SUCCESS"

3. Now you have to cut the uploaded picture URL (address) It is the "http://" line. to cut, you highlight the line and then hit control and "c" at the same time. (Thats the shortcut. You can also do it by right clicking and selecting "cut"

Next you hit the back button to get back to your original new message box.

You can paste the previously cut uloaded picture url into the "Optional Image URL" by first getting deleting the previous address line in ther window. If there is no previous url in there, make sure to delete the "http://" thats in there. The url you will be pasting already has that in there, and if it's in there twice, the picture won't show.

Another option to paste is to put it right into the body of the message. To get it to work, you must first put "[ pic]" then paste the url address by either hitting control and v at the same time, or right click the mouse and select paste. At the end of the line you must put "[ /pic]"

Now, if you want to get fancy, and want your picture to be centered, you start the line with "[ center]" and end the line with "[ /center]"

I will list the code the picture post in different ways along with what I put in to get it. The picture url (address) that I cut after I uploaded my picture was: http://www.chipguide.com/tcbuploads.php?image=2buddhas.gif If you notice, the address is in blue, signifying that it's a link. If you just paste the address (url) like I did here, the viewers could click the address and it would link to it. This is just as if you typed any web address.

one picture not centered in body.

To get this I typed: [ pic]http://www.chipguide.com/tcbuploads.php?image=2buddhas.gif[ /pic]

one picture centered in body:

To get this, I typed:[ center][ pic]http://www.chipguide.com/tcbuploads.php?image=2buddhas.gif[ /pic][ /center]

Just a couple of final notes. You should be sensitive to the size of pictures that you post. People with dialup connections will have to wait for the picture to load. Also, even if a picture isnt a large file size, it could be a large picture in physical viewing size. You want to have a picture thats not going to take a long time to load, and one that also wont be so large that the person cant see it all without scrolling.

Everyone should always "preview" their posts before hitting the "post message". This is VERY important. You will see if everything is right or not. No matter how good you get, you should always do this. There's no reason to post a message with the words "Test" in the heading. You can test it and see it just as it will appear just by hitting the preview message.

Hopefully, I wasnt too technical here, and I didnt confuse everyone.

I think maybe I'll work on simplifying the instructions even more.
