Hiya Andre. Slabbing is an accepted pratice in speculative collecting like coins and sports cards. A commercial enterprise for a fee, inspects and grades a collectible. the outfit then encasulates the item in a tamperproof plastic device call a "slab". This supposedly ensures its condition and authenticity. The scan at top is the only image I have of a slabbed chip.

The hobby of casino chip collecting and the CCGTCC, almost exclusively, feels that this activity has no benefit for chippers. It adds cost but yeilds no actual value to collectible casino chips. The business that announced that they were going to start slabbing chips seemed unwilling or unable to describe condition grade as it related to chips and offered no proof of expertise on its part pertaining to authentification of casino chips. Abuses of the slabbing and grading process in other hobbies also indicate that this service isn't something that fits the chip hobby.

Lively times in chip collecting were had during the debate of this topic.
