I think what Fran was referring to is a layout like this.

This is also what I know to be a French roulette table. There are two croupiers, one on each side of the wheel. Players can sit the full length of either side of the table. If the table is particularly busy, a third croupier will be at the end of the table near the columns bets. Note that the dozens bets aren't along one length of the table like they are on an American wheel, they are on both sides of the columns bets at the end of the table. Also note that the individual numbers on the layout don't indicate the color of the number. Some French layouts also have "neighbors" bets on both sides of the zero bet which facilitate betting sections of the wheel with one bet.
