I would guess the opposite, that if it were not torn then the damage occured before packing. I would look for EXTREMELY small chips. If you found chips it "likely" happend in shipment. If no chips are found then I would assume it was packed that way. The chips being lost or swept away prior to packing. That's just my guess.... I am no Crime Scene Investigator! haha
