Les, it is my opinion that....

CHIPCO chips like that are the result of CHIPCO testing. Why use blank chips to perform pre-production tests? If you happen to have excess product leftover from a run that was not needed, or done in error, or....

Although Allan Myers suggests that they are cancelled chips, I would have to disagree. Intead of putting them through the printing process (and therefore using more inks, more backing paper, and press time, it seems to me that breaking them up would be a better cancellation process.

But since they are printed on a second time, it would be my guess that they are testing the artwork, or the ink, or some other aspect of the fabrication process and are doing it with on-hand, excess chips.

I have four of them that I got on eBay. They sound like the kind that Mr. Myers has. I will scan and post them later today.

I will agree with Allan (and likely Gene) that they are floor sweepings and not error chips.
