Re: Help with Puerto Rican chips please!

My original catalog of Puerto Rico chips (75 pages) was published in 1999, way before the flood of PR chips which glut the marketplace today found their way to the shores of the mainland USA. The price estimates at that time were based on what some of the major PR collectors of that era had paid for many of their chips; including yours truly.

The second, and more recent 25-page book that was published in 2002 by Al Rollins and George Davis are of obsolete PR chips only ... and many of those estimates are equally off the wall in today's marketplace. However, that being said, not all Puerto Rico chips should be painted with the same brush. There are some very rare, expensive chips that are seldom offered ... and when they do make a brief appearance are quickly bid up to high levels by advanced collectors of this very specialized field.

I hope to have a new updated book on Puerto Rico chips published by this year's convention... if I can get some input from established Puerto Rico chip collectors. Not all collectors are willing to contribute to reference works. I had one dealer tell me at last year's convention that he didn't want it known that he had some particular chips because as it stands now ... they are "unlisted". If they become known, the value will drop. Guys like this, I don't need to know.
