South Africa does use the Rand as a currency. However, on the chips from Dominican Republic, the RD refers to the local currency in this Caribbean island, the Dominican Peso. I don't know why the RD was used on some chips... maybe someone who has actually visited there can elaborate. The embassy web site abbreviates the currency as DOP.

I understand most of the casinos that cater to tourists also have chips in US$.
