Estate-planning experts say seniors who want to avoid unwanted state estate-tax bills have several options; including gifting, trusts, disclaimers, executors' options, and what some say just might be the simplest course of action, relocation.

All else being equal, the states that are expected to benefit most from the senior migration include Alabama, Florida, California and Nevada. Those states require a vote or a constitutional amendment to change their estate tax laws.
