Collection cataloging and databases

I am curious as to how many of you out there have cataloged your collection. Do you use a written and/or electronic catalog? And how big was your collection before you started to keep track?
I just finished typing 100 records from my written catalog into my searchable computer databas bringing me up to 666 pairs. I still have another 30 or 40 pairs to enter in the catalog and then into the computer. I did not start cataloging untill I had over 100 pair, by the time I got caught up getting them in the database it was over 250 pairs. I find with the database I am not bidding on duplicates at auction as I can click on it and do a quick search.
I use an old dos based program called First Choice. I would update to a newer program but it is a realy nice customizable database.
