My comments on today...

Today was one of those days on The Chip Board that I hate. All sorts of crap going on, my email full of complaints, the board full of bickering and fighting, name calling, threats, misunderstandings, imposters, etc. Yee ha! I wish my computer had been down.

Here is a post I made on The Strike Point some time back. Not all of it pertains to what went on here today, but some of it does. Please read.

I don't get to read every message posted on this board, but I do read some of them and there seems to be a lot of needless bickering going on.

I find it incredible that people have such a hard time just ignoring posts that they have learned from experience they don't want to read! How many of you subscribe to a magazine, any magazine? What do you do when the next page has an advertisement or an article that you don't want to read? You simply flip the page. You don't fire off a nasty letter to the editor or to the advertiser complaining about that page. You just ignore it. That is what you should do here as well.

People come here for different reasons. Some people look only for information on Las Vegas strikes, some are looking for strikes from anywhere. Some just want information, some are looking for info on where to buy, some are looking for buyers and some are looking for sellers. My point here is that each and every person that uses this board has their own reason for coming here. That is what makes a board like this work, many different interests that all fall under the more broad category of Silver Strikes.

That doesn't mean that anything goes. There must be guidelines in place, but they should be broad guidelines that keep people on the general track of what the board is about, Silver Strikes in this instance. You don't want someone coming here selling used cars or offering medical advice, but you also have to remember that we are all human beings, and when we participate in a forum such as this, we get to know each other and on occasion, off topic things will be shared. How do you legislate something like that out? You don't! That is what makes this kind of thing work.

If someone on the board is doing something that you don't like, try and ignore it. If you can't ignore it, take a few minutes and try to think of a way to resolve it without making a public spectacle. If your neighbor's dog is pooping in your yard, you might ignore it. When the dog starts tearing up your flower bed then you can't ignore it any longer. BUT, you wouldn't walk up and down the street shouting at your neighbor for the whole world to hear, you would call them PRIVATELY or visit their home and work out the problem. The same thing applies in this neighborhood.

I don't have the time or the inclination to moderate the board. I have never been scared of a little controversy, but there are some things that I don't like and I would very much appreciate it if they would stop.

1) Name calling. "Joe did this or Bill did that and I don't like it", is fine. But "Joe is a prick" or "Bill is stupid" in not fine. Please refrain.

2) Impersonating others is NEVER ok. Even if you are impersonating someone who has been impersonating others. As I learned when I was little, two wrongs don't make a right.

3) Anonymous postings are generally acceptable, although not really desireable. But if you post anonymously, don't forget the 2 points above.

I had a series of email conversations with Mark Sutton today and he has agreed to abide by these rules. Please don't give him a reason to change his mind by failing to abide by them yourself.

Thanks for listening.
