Printers call it a "registration" error....
In Response To: HR Bunny Money Question ()

Depending on the severity, the chip might or might not be considered an error, AND there are plenty of collectors who will say that it is not an error.

Registration errors happen when (in layman's terms) the print heads are not correctly aligned. It looks to me like the CMYK printing process is used, i.e., C for cyan, M for magenta, Y for yellow and K for black.

The redish color of the bunny head is not 100% magenta. Based on the error, it is made up of a percentage of magenta and a percentage of yellow. However, the magenta and yellow did not line up directly over each other, nor did one (or both) line up with the open spaces of white (the inlay is white) through the black. I think the yellow was out of alignment here.

In the other examples I have seen, the white spaces between the face, front of the ears and parts of the tie, are done that way on purpose. This gives a 3-D effect of the bunny head rather than a flat looking, red over black image.

What I find interesting is that your photo also shows the UV marking (the H & C) in the center of the chips. What kind of lighting were you using when you took this picture?
