Re: OSHA????
In Response To: Re: OSHA???? ()

I don't know if OSHA, specifically, has any issue here but I was also talking about in the casino industry and with other agencies as well. If the presence of lead in the chips was at such a level to be harmful by casual contact, Ie. holding, counting, playing with etc. there would have been complaints of sickness by employees of casinos, or large numbers of common dissorders on record with insurance companies, hospitals, health departments, common among those who have to handle chips all day long as parts of their jobs. Not to mention the health issues of people (customers) who spend lots of time in poker rooms or playing casino games all day long. Thus, I would suspect, the issue is not of serious enough concern or there would have been some health investigation into the illnesses of casino patrons and employees from extended contact with chips. I have never heard of such issues so I would suspect that the content of the chips is stable enough not to be a hazard enough.

Unless you are eating the chips, sucking on them, breaking them up.... Like I said, in a previous post, if one is concerned about extensive contact with potentially harmful substances, wash the chip lightly with an antibacterial soap (that is where most danger probably lies anyways), and put the chips into protective capsules to protect you from them and them from you. If your children like to play with the chips have them wash their hands afterwards and make sure they don't put the chips in their mouths. When playing in casinos with chips,(look at your hands after handling coins for example), wash your hands before grabbing that sandwich. Not because of lead or other contents of the chips but because of the fact that you never know where other people have had their hands before previously touching what are now your chips. Basically this is going back to the same issue that has been discussed in the disgusting debate of whether to clean chips or not. You shouldn't be getting ill from simply touching your chips. Even if they do contain lead or other toxic materials. You, usually, get sick when those substances get ingested. Thus washing your hands before eating or putting your hands near or in your mouth should suffice.
