I would like the opinion of my fellow collectors regarding chip variations.

Over the past year or so, I have seen many posts regarding variations. There seems to be some amount of interpretation.

Is there a governing body that makes a decision as to what IS and IS NOT a variation?

How do you personally view variations as you collect chips? I am/will be posting several of the many examples of variations. Which of the following categories do they fall in for you?

• variation I recognize and choose to collect
  
• variation I recognize and choose to neglect
  
• someone's vivid imagination
  
• I really do not care
  

Some, I clearly see as variations (and collect each version). For me, variations in this category include the following:

• molds: house vs h&c vs chipco...(see Sac&Fox)
  
• distinct (from my perspective) color variation
  
• borders: suit, diesuit, ... (see Jerry's)
  
• text: Cannery's "Las Vegas" vs "No Las Vegas" or Orleans years or Palms years...(or see Viejas)
  
• picture Palms A, K, Q, J
  
• layout: (see Hon Dah)
  
• Location: (see Silver Dollar)
  
• Grand Opening or limited/special edition (see Santa Ynez)
  

Others I recognize as variations but personally choose to not collect - such as:

• h&c versus long cane version
  
• minor color variation (my interpretation)
  
• lot vs rot
  

I'd be interested in hearing some of your opinions on the subject.
